A Siem Reap honeymoon works when the hotel is chosen for the hours between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., because that is where a couple spends most of each day. Temples are a dawn activity. Dinner is early. In between are four or five hot hours that a private pool, a shaded garden or a quiet villa turns into the best part of the trip, and a busy resort pool turns into the worst.

Honeymoon lists for Siem Reap name the most expensive hotels in town and stop there. They rarely say that half of those hotels are a drive from every restaurant, that a sunrise at Angkor Wat is shared with several thousand people, or that a private temple morning costs $30 to $50 in guide fees rather than the hundreds that packaged "private tours" charge. They also miss the hotels in the $140 to $350 range where a couple gets a private pool or a quiet garden and still walks to dinner.

This guide covers eight hotels for couples at every budget, how to arrange a private temple morning, and where to eat and spend the evening. The [where to stay in Siem Reap pillar](https://www.angkortourism.org/where-to-stay-in-siem-reap/) covers the full hotel market. Prices, hours and transport times below were checked against operator websites and official sources in October 2026.

## The Shape of the Day Decides the Hotel

A honeymoon in Siem Reap has a fixed rhythm. The temples open at 5:00 a.m. for Angkor Wat and 6:00 a.m. for most others. By 11:00 a.m. from March to May the stone radiates heat and the open courtyards are empty of anyone sensible. From then until about 3:30 p.m. the day happens at the hotel. Late afternoon is a sunset temple, a walk along the river or a massage. Dinner is at 7:00 p.m., and most couples are asleep by 10:30 p.m. because a tuk-tuk is waiting at 4:30 a.m. the next morning.

That rhythm makes three hotel features matter more than any others. First, a pool that is private, or shaded, or both, at 2:00 p.m. Second, silence at night: Pub Street runs past midnight, until 2:00 a.m. or later at weekends, and its noise carries two streets. Third, a staff that will pack breakfast for a 4:30 a.m. departure without being asked twice.

What does not matter much is distance to the temples. The hotels closest to Angkor Wat save 5 to 10 minutes on a ride that takes 15 to 20 from the center, on empty roads at dawn. What matters more for a couple is whether dinner is a walk or a tuk-tuk, and whether the hotel feels like the destination on the afternoons in between. The [best area to stay guide](https://www.angkortourism.org/best-area-to-stay-siem-reap/) explains the trade-off by neighborhood.

## Private Pools and Villas

Four hotels where the couple gets water of their own, or close to it, from about $94 a night for entry rooms to $1,650. They are listed by nightly rate, lowest first, with the package-only villas last.

### 1. Heritage Suites Hotel

The honest verdict: a private pool and steam room at lower rates than the villa hotels. Near Wat Polanka in Slokram, 5 minutes by tuk-tuk from the Old Market and 15 minutes from Angkor Wat. Twenty-six rooms, with Bungalow Pool Suites that each have a private 8 meter pool and a steam room. The Residence has both a private pool and a jacuzzi. A 2025 green-season package priced three nights at $615 for a Bungalow Suite with Pool, and entry rooms started at $94 in late October 2026. The limitation: the Heritage Rooms in the main building are a different, plainer product than the bungalows.

### 2. Phum Baitang

The honest verdict: villas on stilts over rice paddies, with private plunge pools in the Pool Villas. Forty-five wooden villas on stilts over 8 acres of working rice paddies, 15 minutes west of the center in Svay Dangkum, with a 50 meter infinity pool, a spa in a restored farmhouse and water buffalo in the fields. Terrace Villas are 60 square meters with a raised deck. Pool Villas are 72 square meters with a private 20 square meter plunge pool. Third-party rates start around $310 to $400 a night in the green season, with a three-night minimum from 20 December to 11 January. The limitation: every outing is a 15 minute drive, and the villas are wooden, so neighbors' doors are audible.

### 3. Amansara

The honest verdict: the highest rates in this guide, with temple excursions in the current package. The 1960s royal guesthouse on the Road to Angkor has 24 suites, many with private plunge pools, 10 minutes from Angkor Wat. Rates are not published. Third-party listings put them at roughly $1,400 to $1,650 a night, and the current advance-booking package includes temple excursions, breakfast and afternoon tea, with a two-night minimum. The limitation: formal and hushed, with nothing to walk to and no pool scene.

### 4. Shinta Mani Angkor, Bensley Collection Pool Villas

The honest verdict: private villas within walking distance of town, sold only in packages. Ten two-level villas of 156 square meters behind carved walls on Oum Khun Street, each with a private lap pool, a rooftop living area and a butler, a 10 minute walk from the Old Market. Villa guests use the main hotel's restaurants and spa, and the hotel says room revenue funds the Shinta Mani Foundation. Villas are sold only in multi-hotel packages for two, from $10,500 for six nights including three villa nights. The limitation: the price is set by the package, not the night, so a short Siem Reap-only stay in a villa is hard to book.

## Gardens and Boutique Hotels

Four hotels with fewer than 50 rooms where the pool is shared but the grounds are quiet, from $139 a night. Angkor Village Hotel comes first because it answers the honeymoon evening on site: a Khmer dinner by the ponds and a dance performance in its own theater, without a tuk-tuk. The others follow by rate, lowest first.

### 1. Angkor Village Hotel

The honest verdict: a timber hotel around ponds, with a restaurant and a dinner-show theater on the same grounds. Street 26 off Wat Bo Road, a 5 minute walk from the Old Market, 43 rooms in Khmer-style wooden buildings, a pool and a spa. The Water View rooms on the upper floors are 38 square meters. The grounds hold Aaraama, an open-air restaurant serving dinner from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., and the Apsara Theatre, with dinner at 7:30 p.m. and a show at 8:30 p.m., both open to non-residents. Room-only rates and the prices of dinner and the show are not published. The published package of two nights with breakfast and two dinner-show tickets starts at $320. The limitation: the mid-1990s buildings have wooden stairs and no elevator mentioned on the site, the 20 square meter Petite rooms are too small for a honeymoon, rooms nearest Wat Bo Road hear motorbikes early, and a dinner show is a tourist format, slower and more formal than an evening at Phare.

### 2. Viroth's Hotel

The honest verdict: a walkable Wat Bo hotel with published rates. Street 24 in Wat Bo, 7 minutes on foot from the Old Market, 35 rooms around a 20 meter pool. The Deluxe Terrace room of 50 square meters is published from $215, the Suite of 60 square meters from $275. The limitation: the pool is shared with 35 rooms and busy in the early afternoon in December and January.

### 3. Sala Lodges

The honest verdict: a restored wooden house to yourselves, around a shared pool. Eleven Khmer wooden houses from the 1950s to 1980s, moved and restored around a pool at 498 Sala Kamreuk, 10 minutes by tuk-tuk from the Old Market, each with a terrace and a rain shower, and the Ma Om restaurant. About $165 to $250 a night in 2026 listings. The limitation: old wood has gaps, so insects and footsteps are part of the stay.

### 4. Jaya House River Park

The honest verdict: a 36-room garden hotel with two pools and an included airport pickup. River Road, Treang Village, 6 minutes by tuk-tuk from the Old Market, with 36 rooms, two pools, a spa and a plastic-free policy. Airport pickup is included for stays of two nights or more. Aggregators showed $338 for a January night in 2026. The limitation: every dinner out is a tuk-tuk ride, and the pools are shared.

## Private Temple Mornings

A private temple morning in Siem Reap is a licensed guide, a driver and a plan that runs against the crowd. It does not need a tour company.

**The guide.** Licensed English-speaking guides charge $30 to $50 a day in 2026, and some agencies add about $15 for a sunrise start or distant temples. Most hotels can arrange one, and the hiring a licensed Angkor guide guide explains how to check the license. A guide makes the difference at the Bayon and at Banteay Srei, where the carving is the point.

**The vehicle.** A tuk-tuk for the morning costs $18 to $25, about the same as a full day, and roughly $5 more for a 4:30 a.m. pickup. A car with a driver costs $35 to $60 a day and has air conditioning, which matters from March to May.

**The order.** The sunrise at Angkor Wat draws several thousand people to the north reflecting pool. The version that feels private: watch the sky lighten at Srah Srang, the royal bathing pool east of Banteay Kdei, then arrive at Angkor Wat around 7:00 a.m. as the sunrise crowd leaves for breakfast. Or start at Ta Prohm at 6:00 a.m., when the trees and the stone have the first hour to themselves. Be back at the hotel by 11:00 a.m. The [Angkor Wat sunrise guide](https://www.angkortourism.org/angkor-wat-sunrise/) covers where to stand and when to leave.

**The rules.** Shoulders and knees covered for both of you, in every temple. The [Angkor dress code guide](https://www.angkortourism.org/angkor-dress-code-rules/) lists what gets turned away. The three-day Angkor Pass costs $62 per person and works on any three days within seven. The [Angkor Pass guide](https://www.angkortourism.org/angkor-pass-tickets-prices-hours/) explains where to buy it.

## Where to Eat as a Couple

The five are listed by price, lowest first, with the one that publishes no prices last.

**Malis Siem Reap.** On Pokambor Avenue by the river, open 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., with mains at $11 to $38 including taxes. The limitation: it is a large operation that feeds tour groups.

**Lum Orng.** Chef Sothea Seng's restaurant in Thlok Ondong Village, with seven-course tasting menus from $32, including a vegan one, at dinner from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The limitation: it is the farthest of the five from the center, 10 to 20 minutes by tuk-tuk.

**Cuisine Wat Damnak.** The restaurant of Joannès Rivière in a wooden house in Wat Damnak village, with a $45 tasting menu, $38 vegetarian, Monday to Saturday from 6:30 p.m., last orders 9:00 p.m., plus 5 percent service and 10 percent tax. Guests must be 12 or older. The limitation: it closes on Sundays and fills days ahead in high season.

**Embassy.** Corner Street 5, Mondul 1, with a seasonal chef's menu at dinner at $66, or $57 vegetarian, wine pairings at $48 or $66 and a champagne pairing at $85, plus 10 percent VAT. Dinner runs 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The limitation: it is the most expensive of the five, and a long evening after a temple morning.

**Mahob Khmer Cuisine.** In a wooden house in Traing Village, Slorkram, near Jaya House and Heritage Suites, lunch 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The limitation: menu prices are not published.

The [best Khmer restaurants guide](https://www.angkortourism.org/best-khmer-restaurants-siem-reap/) and the fine dining guide rank more options, and the [Siem Reap food guide](https://www.angkortourism.org/siem-reap-food-guide/) explains the dishes.

## Evenings After Dinner

Siem Reap evenings are short and early. **Phare, the Cambodian Circus** performs at 8:00 p.m. every night under a big top on Ring Road, an hour long, with adult seats at $18, $28 or $38. It is acrobatic theater rather than classical dance. **Bambu Stage** in Wat Damnak stages The Ramayana with shadow puppets from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. for $25, with 40 seats that sell out. A walk along the river after dark is quiet and lit between the Old Market and the bridges. The [evening shows guide](https://www.angkortourism.org/evening-shows-siem-reap/) compares every option, and the [Apsara dance guide](https://www.angkortourism.org/apsara-dance-show-siem-reap/) sets dinner shows against theater performances.

## What It Actually Costs

| Item | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|

| Private-pool room | From about $310 | Phum Baitang Pool Villa, green season |
| Private 8 meter pool suite | $615 for three nights in a 2025 package | Heritage Suites, Bungalow Suite with Pool |
| Luxury suite | $1,400 to $1,650 | Amansara, third-party listings |
| Licensed guide | $30 to $50 a day | About $15 more for sunrise at some agencies |
| Tuk-tuk temple morning | $18 to $25 | About $5 more for a 4:30 a.m. pickup |
| Car with driver | $35 to $60 a day | Air conditioning |
| Angkor Pass | $37 one day, $62 three days | Per person |
| Tasting menu | $32 to $66 a person | Lum Orng, Cuisine Wat Damnak, Embassy, before drinks and tax |
| Phare | $18 to $38 a person | 8:00 p.m. |

Dollars work everywhere, and change under $1 comes back in riel at about 4,000 to the dollar. Tips are not included in guide or driver prices: $5 to $10 for a guide's day and $2 to $5 for the driver are common. The [daily budget guide](https://www.angkortourism.org/siem-reap-daily-budget/) adds up the rest.

## What Other Guides Get Wrong

1. **Listing only the most expensive hotels.** A private 8 meter pool at Heritage Suites or a restored house at Sala Lodges suits a honeymoon at a fraction of a luxury villa's price.
2. **Selling "private sunrise tours" at package prices.** A private temple morning is a $30 to $50 guide and an $18 to $25 tuk-tuk. Most hotels can arrange both.
3. **Treating Angkor Wat sunrise as private.** Several thousand people share it. Srah Srang at dawn, then Angkor Wat at 7:00 a.m., feels more like a honeymoon.
4. **Recommending hotels near Pub Street for nightlife.** Couples asleep by 10:30 p.m. for a 4:30 a.m. pickup need the other side of the river.
5. **Ignoring the minimum stays.** Phum Baitang requires three nights from 20 December to 11 January, and small hotels sell out months ahead for those weeks.
6. **Forgetting the dress code.** Shoulders and knees covered at every temple, for both partners, including on the day of the photographs.

## Where to Go Next

The [where to stay in Siem Reap pillar](https://www.angkortourism.org/where-to-stay-in-siem-reap/) sets these hotels against every tier, and the [hotels with a pool guide](https://www.angkortourism.org/hotels-with-pool-siem-reap/) compares the pools for the long afternoons. The luxury hotels guide goes deeper on what $300 and more buys, and the [best time to visit guide](https://www.angkortourism.org/best-time-to-visit-siem-reap/) weighs November against February for the dates.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is the best honeymoon hotel in Siem Reap?

It depends on the budget and on the distance from town. Heritage Suites' Bungalow Pool Suites have a private 8 meter pool and steam room at the lowest rates of the four. Phum Baitang has wooden villas on stilts over rice paddies, a 50 meter infinity pool and Pool Villas with a private plunge pool, from about $310 a night in the green season. Amansara costs roughly $1,400 to $1,650. Shinta Mani's Bensley Collection villas have a private lap pool a 10 minute walk from town, sold only in packages. Each trades something: Phum Baitang and Amansara are a drive from town, the town hotels are not secluded.

### How do we see Angkor Wat without the crowds on a honeymoon?

Hire a licensed guide for $30 to $50 a day and change the order. The sunrise crowd at Angkor Wat runs to several thousand people at the north reflecting pool. The alternative is to watch sunrise somewhere quieter, such as Srah Srang, then reach Angkor Wat around 7:00 a.m. when the sunrise crowd leaves for breakfast. Ta Prohm and the other temples open at 6:00 a.m. and are calmest in the first hour. A tuk-tuk for the morning costs $18 to $25, plus about $5 for a 4:30 a.m. start. Be back at the hotel by 11:00 a.m.

### How much does a honeymoon in Siem Reap cost?

For four nights, roughly $1,000 to $1,800 for two at a boutique hotel at $139 to $350 a night, two temple mornings with a guide at $30 to $50 and a tuk-tuk at $18 to $25, a three-day Angkor Pass at $62 each, two tasting-menu dinners at $45 to $66 a person before drinks and tax, and a Phare evening at $18 to $38 each. At Phum Baitang add about $1,000. At Amansara the room alone is $5,600 to $6,600 for four nights. December and January cost 30 to 60 percent more than September for the same room.

### When is the best time for a honeymoon in Siem Reap?

November to early December, and February. The rains stop in November, the temperatures sit around 31°C, and the rates are below the Christmas peak. From mid-December to mid-January prices run 30 to 60 percent above February and some resorts impose minimum stays, such as three nights at Phum Baitang from 20 December to 11 January. March to May is hot, with average highs of 34.9°C to 35.8°C, which means a pool afternoon every day. May to October is the green season, with afternoon rain, green rice fields and discounts of 20 to 40 percent.

### What should we wear to the temples on a honeymoon?

Shoulders and knees covered, for both of you, in every temple in the Angkor park and in any active pagoda. That means a T-shirt or blouse with sleeves and trousers or a skirt below the knee. Thin linen or cotton works in the heat. Sarongs tied over shorts are sometimes turned away at the upper level of Angkor Wat. Shoes should be closed or sturdy sandals, because temple steps are steep and uneven. Bring a change of clothes for a dinner the same evening, since a temple morning in the heat means a shower before anything else.

### Is Siem Reap romantic enough for a honeymoon?

Yes, if the trip is built around its rhythm rather than against it. The town is small, the evenings end early and the main attraction starts at 5:00 a.m. What works for couples is a hotel with a pool and quiet grounds, two or three temple mornings with a private guide, long afternoons at the pool, and dinners in a garden or at a tasting-menu restaurant. What does not work is staying near Pub Street, which is loud until 2:00 a.m. at weekends, or trying to see every temple in two days.
